In order to become a veterinarian, first of all it is very necessary for a person to complete the formal degree that is perhaps the most important step. The degree is generally known as Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or (VMD). The completion of this degree or course as you may call it, takes around 4 to 5 years to complete it. Any candidate is accepted in a course of veterinary if he or she has studied any course related to the field prior to the admission in DVM.
Required training to become a vet
Even after the completion of your formal degree, you will still be needing some appropriate training in order to be eligible to practice. But in the beginning, when you get admitted in your school, you will be studying a few courses based on your field. This period might last for a year or two and would usually include theoretical study with very little to no practical study. The subjects can include animal health and disease, gross anatomy, radiology, parasitology, and pharmacology. It will not be until you are in your final year that you will be gaining actual practical experience. You will be taking up shifts in clinics and usually in the hospital at your own institute.
